Here’s some extra info to help you get the most enjoyment from Rattlesnake:
Is Rattlesnake compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch? Yes, you can enjoy the game on both types of device. You’ll need the latest firmware (which we recommend you use anyway). To make sure you have the latest firmware, connect your iPhone / iPod Touch to iTunes and click ‘Check for Update’.
How do I control Snake? There are two control options. The first method is to tap the screen relative to Snake’s head. You don’t need to tap too close to his head. For instance, when the game starts, tapping anywhere in the top half of the screen will steer Snake upwards. You’ll get the hang of it very quickly.
However, if you’d prefer, you can go to the Settings / Info screen and turn on the joypad option on. This presents a floating joypad on the screen. Touch the up / down / left / right buttons to turn Snake in the corresponding direction. The joypad is ‘floating’ in that you can drag it around the screen while touching the center square.
The score on the game screen sometimes changes color. What does that mean? White is the default score color. Green indicates you’re setting the record for the day. Yellow indicates you’re setting the record for the device - but don’t let that distract you, keep playing!
How do I score bonus points? What’s with the large background image that appears occasionally? During the game, you’ll occasionally see a food item, shown large in the background. Feed Snake that item while the image is onscreen, and you’ll score bonus points, accompanied by a sound effect if you have those enabled.
Sometimes Snake eats a slippery snack but doesn’t change direction, is that expected? If Snake eats a slippery snack, there’s a two-in-three chance he’ll change direction. If he does slip, and you have sound effects on, you’ll hear a slip sound to warn you.
Sometimes food appears underneath Snake, is that expected? To distribute food around the game area, food is sometimes placed beneath Snake. It’s intended as part of the gameplay, and you’ll need to plan to retrieve the snack.
Sometimes food appears stacked on top of other food, is that expected? Yes, it is. Again, this is part of the gameplay. Double treats mean easy points, but also extra growth!
Rattlesnake saves ‘Today’s High Score’, when does it get reset? The day’s high score gets reset at midnight in the time zone your iPhone is set to.
Rattlesnake saves the highest score, when does it get reset? The highest score is only reset if you delete the game and re-install - it’s the highest score since installation.
Will you be updating Rattlesnake with bug fixes and new game features? That’s our intent! We think we have a great implementation of the classic game, and we’d like to build on that with optional new features that maintain the original addictive gameplay. Of course, updates are free to those who have already bought the game.
I’ve a suggestion for something I’d like to see in the game, how do I get in touch? We’d love to hear from you! Of course, we can’t promise to implement your suggestions, but we’ll put them in the big binary disco thought-machine, and who knows maybe your suggestion may feature in the next update!
